How it All Started...
Heh heh, for those few who are interested in my madness...
How this whole Les Miz thing got started: In 7th grade, I went to a musical performance some of my friends had joined for the summer. It was a motley of a lot of famous songs and skits from a bunch of stuff... My friend (Ire) didn't sing "On My Own" (in fact she sang about feeling nothing and reaching into her soul...), but someone else did. I had never heard of Les Miz (in fact I thought "On My Own" was from the "new" musical, Titanic, that I had heard about... O.o), and Ire immediately jumped on me, making me listen to her soundtrack (the OBC) and singing me songs from it in the middle of the diner we went to afterwards. (Then we went into Bye Bye Birdie... O.o What a sight we must've been! People actually applauded us!)
Since I've listened to her soundtrack, Les Miz has been my favorite musical. I read the abridged soon after (I don't remember which version, but it was kinda green... And all I remembered afterwards was Eponine's death.)
So a few years pass, and I'm in 10th grade. The itinerary for English Gifted had Les Miz at the end, so I was estatic! I got the book, went home, skimmed through, got to the part where Gavroche dies, and sobbed my eyes out. Now my fav character is Gavroche, with Eponine in second. In fact I love the whole Thenardier family, sans the parents of course, the meany-heads.
(The questions on the test were weird... "Thenardier is a) Fantine's brother b) Javert's son c) an innkeeper d)a police spy" I had to bite my hand to keep from laughing out loud... By the way, I passed with flying colors. ^_^ There were two other Mizzies in my class, as well as the teacher herself! I swear, on June 5th, she was wearing red and black! She admitted it, she loved Les Miz! It's actually kinda scary...)
Re-reading the book got me obsessed all over again... I checked out all the websites, looked at every picture, read every fanfic... (Well, almost all...)
Since I'm flat broke, getting memorabilia is kinda hard. My friend (Jeanie, fellow friend with Ire) went to London for a school trip and saw Les Miz... WITHOUT ME! *sniff* She gave me her gift bag (and something else from her trip) so that's now my "poster," I also now have a burned OBC cd, which is kinda terrible, since the endings are kinda cut off. ("They shall see the people RIIIIII...." ?) I also use KaZaA, and downloaded the OFC, which I LOVE! (I CRIED when I saw "La Mort de Gavroche" and "La Faute a Voltaire" in the Search page. I cried EVEN MORE when I listened to them!) I also taped the TAC from the library tape (It is very convinient to have 2 VCR's... ^_^), and I kinda read the unabridged online.
Then the fanfics got started. Ugh, my first LM one was horrible. I deleted it. The rest aren't so bad, even though most of them are poems. One poem, "Watching the Rain," has the most reviews I've ever gotten on FF.net!
Now, since there aren't too many people down here who like Les Miz as much as I do, I joined Les Miz communities online. Mad Mizfits, an MSN community, was the result of wondering who in the world was sponsering a fic contest on LMFFI. Now I belong to it, and as well post on Manon's forum on Frenchboys.net. ^_^
How this whole Newsies thing got started:
Again, Ire. Jeanie had pulled out her Disney songbook and started playing. Ire wanted her to play "Sieze the Day" so she could sing along. I liked the words.
Later on, I'm sleeping over Jeanie's house (Ire wasn't there, for some reason), and she asks me what movie I want to see. We go through her movie stack, and I notice Newsies. Remembering "Sieze the Day," I watched it.
*blush* It soon left my mind, and since then I've heard it numerous times when Jeanie played her cassette of it in her car. Flash foward, I'm having family problems, and I hear "Santa Fe" again in Jeanie's car. It brings new meaning to me, and I devote myself to it online. Shrinking away at all the fanfics, which mainly consist of Mary Sues, I focus on quizzes, lyrics, and bloopers/observations/comments sections of websites. Then I download the soundtrack from KaZaA. ^_^ Then I rent Newsies from the library, and try to do the same thing that I did with the Les Miz TAC. Unfortunately, the movie was copy-protected, and the coloring came out too dark. So I'm waiting for my father to go to Blockbuster and rent it so we can copy it. Of course, I could copy it from Jeanie, which I SHOULD, but a) I'm too lazy, and b) I think her copy is old. I don't think it'll handle it. Of course, I could ask... Oh gah.
And there! Now you know my stories. I hope it helps you understand my psychopathic ways a little better. Or not, to each their own.
